Working with Katherine

Katherine is a writer and strategic communications consultant as well as being mum to two children, one of whom is severely disabled. She believes in the power of good communications and language for fostering behaviour change and supporting families with disabled children to live fantastic lives.

Katherine’s writing has appeared on Mumsnet, Huffington Post, BBC Ouch, local and national press and she has been interviewed on Huffington Post Live, BBC Radio Cornwall and Heart FM.

Katherine is a member of SWAN UK, the charity for families with undiagnosed children. She is a SWAN UK blogger, raising awareness of syndromes without a name among health and social care professionals, the general public, the media and education.

Katherine is actively and passionately campaigning for better lives for families with disabled children. She has spoken at Parliament about the challenges of working when you have a disabled child and campaigned for better childcare for disabled children at the Parliamentary Inquiry into Childcare for Disabled Children.

Katherine is working for better planning, design and funding for home adaptations and accessible housing. She has worked closely with her own local authority in Cornwall to improve the process of home adaptations and Disabled Facilities Grants. She is now working nationally with The Inclusive Home to campaign for better planning, good design and appropriate funding for home adaptations and accessible building, both residential and public.

Katherine is also an active campaigner for fully accessible toilets with a bench and hoist, needed by over 250,000 of the population but which are still missing from most public places.

Katherine is well networked within influential social media communities, both mainstream and disability related. The blog has won awards including ‘Most Informative Post’ in the SWAN UK Blogger Awards.

Katherine is an engaging speaker and writer and is open to paid commissions as well as facilitating training for professionals on working with families with disabled children.

Katherine will accept PR requests from specialist brands who provide disability related products or services and also from mainstream brands that are willing to consider their commitment to inclusivity.
